Caregivers and home care workers: the current picture
Home child care providers and home support workers who want permanent residence for work in Canada outside Quebec.
Steps, in order
- Check the current intake status first: the Home Care Worker Immigration pilots are paused and are not accepting new applications while existing applications are processed.
- If you already applied, follow the instructions in your own application account and keep your work authorization valid.
- If you have not applied, look at other routes that may fit β for example, a work permit through an employer, a provincial stream, or another pilot β and do not pay anyone who promises a pilot spot while intake is closed.
Who is eligible β the essentials
- The two pilots cover Child Care and Home Support, for workers with a full-time home care job offer, relevant experience or training, language ability, and education.
- The pilots do not apply to work in Quebec; Quebec hiring for in-home care goes through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program with an LMIA.
- Earlier caregiver pilots (Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker, 2019-2024) are closed to new applications; only applications already submitted continue.
Documents you will usually need
- Full-time home care job offer
- Proof of relevant work experience or training
- Language test results
- Education credentials
- Medical exam and police certificates if requested
Common mistakes
- Applying to a paused pilot, or paying a recruiter for a closed intake.
- Assuming Quebec home care work is covered by the pilots.
- Confusing the old caregiver pilots with the current home care pilots.
